Harry's story

“Simply the best”; well that’s what Harry’s fan club think! Bought initially as sire for the Stagsden Stud and as a ride & drive horse for his owner, he quickly showed that driving wasn’t for him and that his capabilities were far above his owner’s. He went on to have an exceptional competition career; his name is on over twenty of the Breed Show trophies, including winning the Open WHP under Side saddle and he won the Clifton Activity Cup five times - the most for any haflinger to date.

In the wider horse world he was well known, with his rider Ann Birch BHSI, for his outstanding success in British Dressage Affiliated competition; he ended his career in 2003, aged 19, with 300+ dressage points, classifying him as an Advanced Medium horse.

However, his superstar moment came in 1995, at the National Stallion Association’s two day Performance Test, when he was awarded Class 1 Elite – the highest possible grade. To date he is one of only 21 horses who have achieved the top grade, out of only 97 who have passed. His scores, on the Nasta website, currently put him in 6th place for rideability, 14th for dressage, 19th for jumping and 14th place overall – not bad for a hairy pony!.
