Nomad's Story
Nomad holds the enviable position of being the most successful horse in Breed Show history, winning over 30 trophies throughout his Breed Show career. Paired with a number of riders over the years he enjoyed the most success with Emma Kennett and Justine Cully. His most prolific successes have been in dressage and ridden showing classes. In partnership with Whitbourne Andy the pair remain unsurpassed in their number of wins in the ridden pairs class.
Away from the Breed Show Nomad has amassed a number of wins across many disciplines. His career has encompassed Dressage (competing to Medium Level), show jumping, ridden and in-hand showing, Side Saddle, Working Hunter, cross country and, in his latter years, huge success on the Veteran circuit - missing qualifying to the Veteran Championship at Olympia by half a point. During his prolific showing career Nomad has won in-hand and under saddle at, amongst others, The Three Counties Show, Royal Windsor, Royal Norfolk and The Royal Show.
Although not his favourite discipline Nomad has succeeded in the field of endurance, having successfully competed 40-mile classes and he is also broken to harness.
He has been an ambassador of the breed throughout his life, manning equine events on numerous occasions, leading carnivals, helping out at local charity events such as Run for Home and, paired with Solfried, led the parade at the Tercentenary of Rotten Row through London behind Tom Crane’s driven pair.
He was also a member of the team that represented Great Britain at the Haflinger World Show in 2000.
Nomad’s fan-base is extensive - from Her Majesty The Queen, who has selected him on a number of occasions to cover her Haflinger mare Balmoral Kelpie, to the thousands who have admired his picture in the Ultimate Horse Book. A famous dressage rider, in awe of his outstanding action, also once said of him that if he stood a hand higher he would be their next Olympic horse.
Although now competing less extensively, Nomad is still active with his studwork and is used to educate the more advanced riders. His success lives on in his offspring - his son Silvretta Napoleon is also a winner of the Lifetime Ridden Performance Horse Award.
