LANGFORD AURIGA
Auriga gained his place in the Lifetime Ridden Performance Awards by gaining:-
Category 1 – a win in the dressage, two wins in the ridden classes.
Category 2 – A win in the show jumping.
Category 3 - a win in Handy Pony.
Auriga’s dam Maida was one of the few imports from upper Austria. His sire Anderson was imported from Tyrol in the early seventies as a yearling.
Auriga's Story
Auriga (born in Sussex in 1982) was the first foal Oscar Proctor bred from a mare he imported from Austria. Angela Langman was responsible for Auriga’s early socialisation. Oscar Proctor generously gave me Auriga as a yearling for my daughter, Kate Mundy.
Auriga was a delight to handle and incredibly easy to train. We showed him in hand but this was not his forte. He was an ‘old-fashioned’ type and was too laid back to show himself off well. He came into his own under saddle. My daughter was too young to ride him during the early years, so I had the pleasure of competing on him in ridden showing classes, dressage and long-distance riding. He competed successfully for our local riding club in dressage, achieved a bronze award for long-distance riding and was hugely successful in the show ring at the Haflinger Society Show, winning both the novice ridden section and the overall ridden championship.
When my daughter took over the ride, she competed successfully in hand pony and show jumping at the Haflinger Show. She also had a happy and successful time with him in the Pony Club. He proved to be bold across country and it was only his lack of speed and his small stature that limited his progress one-day eventing.
Auriga’s record speaks for itself. He was a lovely personality and gave us tremendous pleasure. We could not have wished for a better all-round family pony. He died here on the farm.
