Waldchen’s dam Putz was imported from Tyrol in 1969 in foal. Waldchen’s sire was a Tyrolean stallion.
Velly's Story
Waldchen was the first British born stallion to be accepted into Section A of the Stud Book. He was only shown twice in hand as an entire. First as a yearling at the 1971 Haflinger Rally, where Herr Otto Schweisgut awarded him a first class merit and told us he was the best colt in Britain. Secondly he was shown as a four year old, at the three Counties Show, in Malvern. Mrs Yeomans, a respected Welsh Ponies judge, put him first above most of the British stallions and colts of the time. He was gelded as a ten year old.
Velly was agile and quick, but above all he had an exceptional temperament. Nothing phased him and he was amazing with the children he taught to ride. Velly took part in many musical rides including the 1982 display at the World Haflinger Federation Meeting at Chatsworth in 1982.
Waldchen in his life competed in Cross-country, show jumping, dressage, ridden classes, both pairs jumping and pairs ridden. Handy Pony and gymkhana. The rosettes he collected in his lifetime must reach well into the hundreds. He was a character whose personality was enormous and reached out to all who knew him. Brave, who overcame a serious accident. A prankster, who enjoyed being an escape artist. Above all he was a kind horse and loveable friend.
