Tara's Story
When, 10 years ago, my grandfather agreed to buy my first horse I have to say it was the total belief of both her breeder Diane Parkinson and Helen Blair that convinced me Tara would be the right horse for me. This has been tested on numerous occasions over the years but the end result is an amazing horse that we will never be able to replace.
I was honoured to hear she has won a Ridden Lifetime Achievement Award and feel it is a fitting tribute to her numerous achievements.
The first breed show I intended to take her to was cancelled due to foot and mouth, so when we did get there we entered with a bang. We were thrilled that she won so much in all areas of the show, Dressage/Show-jumping/Open Ridden Mare/Young Rider Championship and the Clifton activity cup to name just a few. Since then she has never come home from a breed show without a trophy.
In more recent years she has been beautifully ridden by my dear friend Claire Brown to reach, in my opinion, Tara’s other great achievement – Side Saddle. She has excelled in competitions in the UK with too many wins to mention but two are extra special.
In 2006 we made the trip to France to compete in her first international side saddle competition and her win there marked the end of an amazing trip.
This was followed by her visit to Hickstead where she was placed 4th in the costume Concours d’Elegance. Seeing her with her ribbon in that arena was a very special moment.
In addition to these achievements she has already had one foal, Earendil Ahoshta, and her second foal is due later this year.
Next year she will be competing once more and I am sure that there are still many more special achievements to come from this unique pony.
