West Langton Lodge Driving Day
September 9th dawned the weather was superb. John & Kathryn Newman arrived with their pair of geldings Rambo & Samson hotley followed by Doug Seel with his pair of geldings Milhall Brigadier and Bayer, the third pair making up the driving day was Limerick Caryduf and her daughter Langtonlodge Charisma. Having tacked up and put to we set off for our drive, I had tried to keep as much of it off road as possible and this meant taking all three turnouts through a ford and cross country. Doug’s two geldings had never seen water before but took it in their stride. Our half way stop was, where else, but one of our locals where my husband had arranged champagne and orange juice. I think the orange was suppose to be for the whips (drivers) but in true Haffy driving style not much orange was consumed. The start of the second half of the drive was on quiet country roads so it gave us a chance to let our visitors have at drive. Driving a single is fun but a pair can be a challenge, Lynne Lockett and her daughter are converted to driving and I know Kate Jackson and mum had a good time too.
The end of the drive came all too soon but after the horses had been feed and watered it was time for us to sit down to a meal provided by our local. It was a shame more members could not manage to attend I will keep you posted on the next driving day. By the way you don’t need to be a driver or have a driving Haffy just come along and experience the thrill of driving.
